Meeting friends amidst a summer storm

The other night, we were invited to our neighbors house for a birthday party. Her nephew had come down from Pennsylvania for a couple of weeks, and wanted us to come and celebrate. Our neighbors are great people, but we never really get to "hang out." They are always going somewhere and so are we. This night was different. We ate grilled hamburgers, and had cake and ice cream. Afterwards, all the grown ups sat around her kitchen table and started talking and telling stories. I laughed so hard! I knew these people from a distance, but never really close up.
A summer thunderstorm came up, and we sat on my neighbors porch and watched the lightning. I got to know a pastor of a huge church in town. He talked of his wife and kids, and I talked about my family and job. What a great guy! He grew up on a farm and loved summer storms.
I went home that night with a great feeling. There are still some great people in the world. There are still people that believe in other people. I really believe I made some great friends that night watching that summer thunderstorm!!
