I've pretty much been a person most of my life who doesn't like conflict, and attempts to be a peacemaker. My Dad is the best peacemaker I know.
But recently that's changing a little. Maybe it's age, or maybe it's because a married a very up front Greek man or maybe I'm just getting fed up with it. The word assertive is define as upfront and forward. It's not that I'm mean about it, but sometimes there's a way of saying something without coming across harsh, but getting your point across.
It happened to me yesterday at a restaurant, I won't say which, but it took a very long time for my food to get to me. Before I would have just sat there and not said anything. I decided to just smile about it and just let the waitress know what was going on. My food finally did get to me and she didn't even charge me the full amount and was very apologetic. And I felt better afterward. I don't think we're supposed to be mean and angry, but rather stand up if somethings not right.
I think this can work with people if we really try, although there are always some that no matter what you try to do want to pick a fight. But all you can do is keep your attitude right, and do what you know is right, and that you have to go home with yourself.
